Johor's Pasir Gudang Hospital races to full capacity by September

Pasir Gudang Hospital (HPG) in Johor is set to accelerate its operations after a recent decree by the state’s regent. The facility, which began staggered services late last year, now faces a push to become fully functional by September. This follows delays caused by staff shortages and technical challenges. Originally, HPG was scheduled to open in phases from August 1, 2025. However, technical problems and a lack of healthcare workers forced a postponement. The hospital currently operates 157 of its 304 beds and has only filled 41% of its 2,271 staff positions.

The Johor government now aims to fill the remaining 59% of vacancies by September. Fourteen specialist clinics and clinical services are already running at full capacity. The recent decree by Johor Regent Tunku Mahkota Ismail demands immediate full operations, shifting the timeline forward significantly. Authorities are working to meet the new deadline, ensuring all beds and services become available within months.

The hospital’s expansion will increase local healthcare access, with all 304 beds expected to be operational by September. Staff recruitment remains a priority to meet the regent’s directive. The move follows earlier setbacks but aligns with the state’s goal of improving medical services in the region.
