Japanese Surgeons Perform Life-Changing Operations on Kazakh Children

A team of Japanese surgeons has conducted life-changing operations on children in Astana. The procedures targeted young patients with congenital defects in their urogenital and gastrointestinal systems. The initiative formed part of a wider training programme for local doctors.

The surgeries took place at Multidisciplinary Children’s Hospital No. 2 in the Kazakh capital. Leading the effort were Professor Atsuki Yamadaki and Takahasi Yunichiro, both renowned specialists from Japan. They performed complex reconstructive and endoscopic operations on children suffering from developmental disorders.

The visit was organised under the Mumkindik mentorship programme, run by the BI-Zhuldyz foundation. Alongside treating patients, the Japanese experts led a masterclass for Kazakhstani urologists. Training included seminars and practical sessions in operating theatres, focusing on advanced endoscopic techniques.

According to the foundation, the knowledge exchange has equipped local physicians with new surgical methods. The programme aimed to build long-term skills among medical staff in Kazakhstan.

The collaboration between Japanese surgeons and Kazakhstani doctors has provided critical care for children with congenital conditions. It has also strengthened the expertise of local specialists in complex paediatric surgeries. The BI-Zhuldyz foundation described the initiative as a step toward improving medical standards in the region.
