India's charity concert spotlights urgent need for better elderly care

A recent charity concert in India highlighted the growing need for better elderly care across the country. Over 550 attendees gathered for Yaadon Ki Bahaar, an event organised by Padma Shri Dr. Mukesh Batra to support elderly widows. The evening combined music with a call for stronger community efforts to improve senior living spaces.

The 14th edition of Yaadon Ki Bahaar featured melodies from India's golden era, raising awareness for senior care. Dr. Batra, founder of Dr. Batra's® Foundation, has spent 25 years advocating for the well-being of older women through free medical aid and cultural events. His foundation specifically supports Shepherd Widows' Home, where many elderly widows lack adequate resources.

India's elderly population, currently between 156 and 160 million, is projected to double by 2050. Despite this, no senior living facility with certified medical care has been officially approved in the last five years, according to public records. Of the 18,000 organised senior homes nationwide, many still lack basic amenities and proper infrastructure.

Dr. Batra stresses the importance of companionship, dignity, and belonging for the elderly. He urges society to contribute skills and compassion to bridge gaps in care. With demand for senior living units expected to reach 2.3–2.5 million in the next decade, his efforts aim to inspire long-term solutions for India's ageing population.

The concert underscored the urgent need for improved senior care infrastructure in India. Dr. Batra's initiatives continue to push for better living conditions, medical support, and social inclusion for the elderly. As the country's ageing population grows, such efforts may shape future policies and community-driven solutions.
