Health Canada approves WYNZORA® cream for stubborn plaque psoriasis
Health Canada has approved WYNZORA®, a new cream for treating plaque psoriasis in adults and adolescents. The decision follows successful clinical trials proving its effectiveness against the chronic skin condition. Knight Therapeutics Inc. will distribute the treatment in Canada after acquiring its rights in 2025.
WYNZORA® contains calcipotriol (0.05 mg) and betamethasone dipropionate (0.5 mg), designed to treat psoriasis vulgaris—the most common form of the disease. It affects 80% to 90% of psoriasis cases, a chronic inflammatory condition impacting around 1 million Canadians and 125 million people globally.
Approval was based on two randomised, eight-week trials. The studies showed WYNZORA® was more effective than a placebo and matched the performance of an existing CAL/BDP gel/suspension. By Week 8, it achieved similar success rates in reducing plaque severity and improving skin clearance.
The cream has already been approved in the European Union, Australia, and other countries since 2019. Side effects, mostly mild skin reactions at the application site, occurred in less than 1% of users. Knight secured Canadian rights through its 2025 acquisition of Paladin Pharma Inc., which had licensed WYNZORA® from MC2 Therapeutics the previous year.
WYNZORA® is now available in Canada as a treatment option for plaque psoriasis. Its approval expands access to a therapy already recognised in multiple countries. The cream's safety and efficacy have been confirmed in controlled clinical settings.
