Green Ladies Bring Comfort to Lonely Hospital Patients in Bad Kissingen
A volunteer group at Helios St. Elisabeth Hospital in Bad Kissingen has been offering companionship to lonely patients since October 2019. Known as the Green Ladies, the team visits wards weekly to provide emotional support and small acts of kindness. Now, they are looking for more volunteers to join their efforts.
The Green Ladies focus on patients who receive few or no visitors during their hospital stay. Their role is to listen, chat, and offer comfort—without discussing medical matters. By doing so, they help make hospital stays feel more humane, particularly for elderly or isolated individuals.
Currently, five women volunteer their time, each assigned to a specific ward once a week. Their responsibilities include easing fears, providing reassurance, and assisting with minor tasks that brighten a patient’s day. The group works alongside the hospital’s pastoral care team but keeps conversations light and supportive. To expand their reach, the Green Ladies are seeking new volunteers aged 18 or older. Applicants should be able to commit three to four hours per week and demonstrate strong interpersonal skills. Kindness, empathy, and emotional resilience are essential, as is the ability to work well in a team. Life experience and reliability are also valued traits for the role.
The group aims to grow its team to support more patients in need. Those interested in volunteering must meet the hospital’s requirements, which can be found by contacting Helios St. Elisabeth directly or visiting their official website. The Green Ladies continue to provide a vital service, ensuring no patient feels entirely alone during their stay.
