GMCH professor alleges harassment by principal, demands official inquiry
An associate professor at Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) has raised allegations of workplace harassment and administrative obstruction. The complaints centre on interactions with the institution's principal, Professor Achyut Baishya. The professor has now called for an official inquiry and intervention from senior authorities.
The professor claims that Principal Baishya repeatedly asked her to meet in his office, even though professional discussions could have taken place within the hospital. She reportedly felt uneasy about these requests and chose to avoid the meetings entirely.
In one instance, the principal allegedly made an inappropriate comment, suggesting she contact him when she was 'absolutely free and alone.' The remark left the professor distressed, prompting her to escalate the matter to the Director of Medical Education.
Having found no resolution, the professor has now sought the Chief Minister's intervention. She insists on a fair investigation to protect professional ethics and ensure the dignity of women officers at the institution.
The professor's formal complaint highlights concerns over workplace conduct and administrative accountability. As of now, no official response from GMCH or relevant authorities regarding these allegations has been documented. The case awaits further action from the Chief Minister's office or other oversight bodies.
