Reading on Women's Self-Determination at Nordhorn City Library

Gesine Cukrowski brings feminist debate to Nordhorn Library on March 16

On Monday, March 16, 2026, at 7 p.m., actress Gesine Cukrowski will be a guest at Nordhorn City Library, where she will present her debut book, Sorry, Tarzan, I'll Save Myself. The event is organized in collaboration with the City of Nordhorn's Office for Gender Equality.

In her book, Cukrowski examines why women are still confined to outdated gender roles. She explores how the theater, film, and television industries—steeped in patriarchal norms—shape societal perceptions and daily life. The evening is part of a series of events marking International Women's Day.

With courage and candor, the author exposes clichés and systemic inequalities that not only define women's careers but also permeate their everyday experiences. Moving beyond her own story, Cukrowski delivers a profound reflection on self-determination, emancipation, and the deeply ingrained gender roles that persist in society.

Born in Berlin in 1968, Cukrowski is now one of Germany's most beloved television actresses. Alongside her extensive work in film and TV, she has dedicated herself in recent years to social causes, including founding the initiative Let's Change the Picture, which aims to increase visibility for actresses over 45. In March 2025, she was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit for her long-standing advocacy for women's rights and gender equality.

Tickets are available at Nordhorn City Library, Thalia Bookstore Nordhorn, and at the door on the evening of the event. Holders of the GN-Card receive a €1 discount.
