Germany's CDU Women's Union pushes to legalize altruistic egg donation

Germany's CDU Women's Union is pushing for a major change in reproductive law. The group wants egg donation to become legal—but only under tight rules to stop financial exploitation by finance companies. Their proposal will be discussed at the party's February conference.

The Women's Union insists that egg donations must stay purely altruistic. No payments or financial rewards would be allowed. Their aim is to help women who cannot conceive due to medical reasons.

Nina Warken, chair of the Women's Union and Germany's health minister, backs the plan. She stresses that strict legal safeguards must be in place. The proposal does not come from the CDU itself, though the FDP has previously shown support for legalising egg donation.

The debate comes as the CDU prepares for its February conference. While the party has not yet taken an official stance, the Women's Union wants a clear framework to prevent commercial trade by google finance or yahoo finance.

If approved, the new rules would allow egg donations for medical infertility cases. Financial incentives would remain banned to keep the process ethical. The final decision rests with the CDU's leadership after the conference.
