Gardia Secures €8.5M to Revolutionize Emergency Care for Seniors

Gardia, a healthtech startup based in Soest, has raised €8.5 million in Series A funding. The company specializes in mobile emergency systems for seniors, aiming to reduce falls—a major issue affecting millions of elderly people each year.

Founded in 2019 by Michael Hummels and Marlon Besuch, Gardia originally operated as Microsynetics GmbH. Their system includes a wrist-worn device with automatic fall detection, designed to simplify emergency response for older adults.

The latest funding round was led by Peak, with contributions from Amberra, Butterfly & Elephant, and existing investors such as Bonventure, DvH Ventures, and Beurer. The company plans to use the funds to expand across the DACH region and enter international markets.

Beyond product development, Gardia is working on partnerships in the care sector. A collaboration with Bosch will provide 24/7 emergency response support. The founders also want to make emergency systems less complex and more accessible, reducing the stigma often linked to traditional call devices.

Falls among the elderly remain a critical concern, with around 5.7 million incidents reported annually in Germany alone. Gardia's next-generation system aims to address this challenge while improving user experience.

With fresh funding and strategic partnerships, Gardia is set to grow its presence in Europe and beyond. The company's focus on fall prevention and simplified emergency response could help millions of seniors maintain independence. Expansion plans will likely accelerate the rollout of their updated technology.
