France's Mon Espace Santé transforms how patients manage medical records

France's digital health platform, Mon Espace Santé, now serves as a central hub for patients' medical records. Available to all subscribers of the state health insurance Assurance Maladie, the system replaces the older Dossier Médical Partagé (DMP) while offering expanded features. By the end of 2023, around 29 million citizens had access, with 8 million actively using its shared medical records. Mon Espace Santé consolidates health data, administrative details, and treatment histories in one place. Patients can view their records, upload important documents, and share information with healthcare professionals. The platform also allows users to block or hide specific practitioners from accessing their files.

The Dossier Médical Partagé (DMP) remains a core section of the system, storing records of appointments, hospital visits, medications, surgeries, and doctor's letters. Healthcare providers access these files through secure professional logins, ensuring strict control over sensitive data. All existing DMP documents were meant to transfer automatically during the switch, though patients can manually add any missing files.

Access to Mon Espace Santé is available via the Ameli website after logging into an Assurance Maladie account. The system aims to simplify record-keeping while maintaining privacy and security for all users. With nearly a third of France's population already registered, Mon Espace Santé continues to expand its reach. The platform's tools for sharing, uploading, and restricting access to medical records provide patients with greater control over their health data. Officials expect usage to grow as more citizens adopt the digital service.
