Eli Lilly's Foundayo shows major weight loss in women at every menopause stage

Eli Lilly and Company has released new findings on weight loss in women at different stages of menopause. The results show that Foundayo, a treatment for obesity, helped participants lose significant weight regardless of their menopausal status. The data comes from two large clinical trials involving over 1,500 women.

The analysis focused on women in the ATTAIN-1 and ATTAIN-2 trials. In ATTAIN-1, those on the highest dose of Foundayo saw substantial weight loss. Premenopausal women lost up to 28.0 lbs (12.8% of body weight), perimenopausal women lost up to 30.4 lbs (14.4%), and postmenopausal women lost up to 28.2 lbs (14.1%).

In ATTAIN-2, which included women with type 2 diabetes, the highest dose led to similar results. Premenopausal participants lost up to 23.4 lbs (11.3%), perimenopausal women lost up to 18.5 lbs (8.9%), and postmenopausal women lost up to 27.8 lbs (13.6%). Beyond weight loss, the treatment also reduced waist circumference. Women in ATTAIN-1 saw decreases of up to 4.9 inches (12.5 cm), while those in ATTAIN-2 lost up to 4.3 inches (11.0 cm) after 72 weeks. Additionally, a notable percentage achieved at least 15% weight loss—up to 51.5% in ATTAIN-1 and 44.2% in ATTAIN-2. Menopause is known to contribute to weight gain, yet few obesity treatments have been studied specifically in this group. The findings suggest Foundayo could be effective across all menopausal stages.

The results highlight Foundayo’s potential for women struggling with obesity or overweight, particularly around menopause. The treatment demonstrated consistent weight loss and reductions in waist size across different life stages. These outcomes may offer new options for managing weight in women affected by menopausal changes.
