Dr. Hannah Cabré to Lead Groundbreaking Women's Health Research at LSU

Dr. Hannah Cabré has taken on two key roles at LSU’s Pennington Biomedical Research Center. Starting on 1 May, she becomes Assistant Professor and Director of the Aging, Gynecology, and Endocrinology Laboratory. The centre, home to over 600 staff and 44 research labs, will support her work on women’s health and aging. Dr. Cabré’s academic path began with a Bachelor of Science in Dietetics from the University of Georgia. She later earned a Master of Science in Sports Nutrition and Exercise Physiology. Her studies culminated in a Ph.D. in Human Movement Science from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Her research examines how female sex hormones shape nutritional needs, body composition, and physical performance as women age. A central focus is understanding the molecular and systemic processes that affect muscle maintenance during menopause. The findings could lead to tailored lifestyle strategies to counter age-related health declines in women.

With her new appointment, Dr. Cabré will lead investigations into the biological links between hormones, nutrition, and aging. The Pennington Biomedical Research Center’s resources will aid her efforts to develop targeted interventions. Her work aims to improve health outcomes for women navigating menopause and beyond.
