DEBRA Closes Butterfly Skin Charity Shop After 20 Years in Quesada

The DEBRA association has announced the closure of its Butterfly Skin Charity Shop in Quesada. The shop has served the Alicante province for over two decades, raising funds for those affected by Epidermolysis bullosa (EB), also known as Butterfly Skin. Founded in 1993 by Nieves Montero and Iñigo Ibarrondo, DEBRA remains the only national charity dedicated to supporting people with EB. Its services include specialist nurses, psychologists, social workers, and researchers working to improve lives.

Over the years, the charity’s team has expanded to nearly 50 members. This includes dedicated volunteers and individuals personally affected by the condition. Despite the Quesada shop’s closure, donations can still be made at the DEBRA shop in San Fulgencio, located at Luis de Góngora Street, Local 37. For those outside Alicante, other donation points are available in Málaga, Valencia, Sevilla, Madrid, and Barcelona. The charity continues to rely on public support to fund its vital work.

The Quesada shop’s closure marks the end of a long-standing local effort. However, DEBRA’s broader network of donation centres and support services remains active. The charity will keep providing care and research for those living with Butterfly Skin.
