Chulalongkorn University opens pioneering day care for elderly staff family members

Chulalongkorn University has launched a new day care project for elderly family members of its staff. The Chula Day Care initiative officially opened on March 11, 2026, with a ceremony led by Prof. Dr. Kanaphon Chanhom, the university's vice president. The programme aims to support older adults and their families in an ageing society. The project is a joint effort between the Center for Health and Well-Being Promotion for Older People (CHWPOP) and the Human Resources Management Office. It provides daytime care services designed around person-centred principles, including activities that encourage self-care skills and cognitive stimulation.

At the opening event, a panel discussion titled 'The Value of Day Care from the Perspective of Family Caregivers of the Elderly' explored how such services benefit both older adults and their carers. The CHWPOP also serves as a training and learning centre for those who care for elderly relatives, offering guidance on best practices. The Chula Day Care project focuses on improving quality of life for older people while easing the burden on working family members. By combining professional support with skill-building activities, the initiative seeks to create a more sustainable care model within the university community. Further details on participation and outcomes will be available through Chulalongkorn's official reports.
