Braunschweig Hospital Names New Chief of Plastic and Hand Surgery

Braunschweig Municipal Hospital has appointed Dr. Cord Christian Corterier as the new head of its Department of Plastic, Aesthetic, and Hand Surgery. The position became independent on 1 October 2024, separating from the trauma surgery division. Dr. Corterier brings specialized expertise in microsurgery and a focus on expanding surgical services at the hospital.

Before joining Braunschweig, Dr. Corterier worked as a senior attending physician in the Department of Plastic and Hand Surgery/Burn Center at BG Clinics Bergmannstrost in Halle. He is a board-certified plastic surgeon with additional qualifications in hand surgery. His career has centered on complex reconstructions, often requiring close collaboration across medical disciplines.

Dr. Corterier highlighted the hospital’s strong reputation as a key factor in his decision. He aims to build on this foundation by strengthening interdisciplinary cooperation. His plans include introducing advanced microsurgical techniques to enhance reconstructive procedures. The newly independent department will now offer a broader range of plastic, aesthetic, and hand surgery services. Dr. Corterier stressed that patient-centered care remains the top priority, with a focus on tailored treatment approaches.

The appointment marks a shift for the hospital, as plastic, aesthetic, and hand surgery now operates as a standalone unit. Dr. Corterier’s leadership is expected to bring new surgical techniques and deeper collaboration between specialties. His arrival follows a period of restructuring within the trauma surgery division.
