Mumbai Medical Breakthrough: 11-Year-Old With Cerebral Palsy Regains Natural Gait After Minimally Invasive Procedure At Narayana Health SRCC Hospital

Boy with Cerebral Palsy Walks Easier After One-Hour Treatment in Mumbai

An 11-year-old boy with spastic diplegic cerebral palsy has shown marked improvement in walking after a single-session treatment in Mumbai. Doctors at Narayana Health SRCC Children’s Hospital used a minimally invasive approach to address his long-standing mobility issues. Agastya was born prematurely at seven months, weighing just 1.9 kg. From infancy, he faced delayed developmental milestones, particularly with walking. Over time, he developed a crouch gait, making movement tiring and inefficient.

Further examinations revealed adductor spasms and knee flexion contractures, preventing him from straightening his legs fully. To correct this, the medical team opted for a combined procedure: botulinum toxin injections and ultrasound-guided percutaneous myofascial release. The one-hour treatment involved injecting 100 units of botulinum toxin into his adductors and hamstrings to relax the tight muscles. There was no surgical incision, negligible blood loss, and minimal discomfort. Within weeks, doctors observed visible improvements in his posture and gait, noting better balance, reduced strain, and easier walking.

The procedure has significantly enhanced Agastya’s mobility. His gait is now smoother, and walking requires less effort. The hospital’s approach offers a promising option for children with similar conditions.
