Boy, 9, Faces Another Surgery After Husky Attack in Sochi
Nine-year-old Valentin Korolyov, who survived a husky attack in Sochi last February, is now preparing for another major surgery. The procedure, set for January 13, aims to restore his upper lip and reshape his nose. Despite his injuries, Valentin remains focused on his studies and future career plans in the classroom.
Valentin's recovery has been closely followed since the incident in early 2025. He currently wears a protective facial mask with a breathing tube, which doctors will remove once his lip is fully repaired. His treatment is being provided at the Russian Children's Clinical Hospital (RDKB) in Moscow, fully covered by his mandatory health insurance.
After the New Year holidays, Valentin and his father will travel to the capital for the operation. While recovering, he will continue his schooling online to keep up with lessons. His teacher, Natalya Karmanova, previously shared how the entire school eagerly awaited his return following the attack.
Beyond his medical journey, Valentin has shown a keen interest in various fields. He attends drawing classes and excels in languages, while also considering future careers in IT, medicine, or journalism.
The upcoming surgery marks another step in Valentin's long-term recovery. His medical team at RDKB will oversee the procedure, with the goal of improving both function and appearance in the classroom. Once healed, he plans to return to in-person classes and resume his usual activities.
