Boehringer's survodutide shows promise in obesity and metabolic health trials
Boehringer Ingelheim has revealed positive findings from two major Phase III trials of survodutide. The results highlight the drug’s potential in weight reduction and metabolic health. Both studies were presented at the American Diabetes Association’s 2026 Scientific Sessions. The SYNCHRONIZE-1 trial focused on adults with obesity or overweight who did not have type 2 diabetes. Its findings, published in The New England Journal of Medicine, showed survodutide’s ability to help reduce body weight.
The SYNCHRONIZE-MASLD trial examined the drug’s effects on metabolic health in adults with overweight or obesity and metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD). These results appeared in Nature Medicine and suggested improvements in liver-related metabolic markers.
Both sets of data were shared at the American Diabetes Association’s 2026 conference, reinforcing survodutide’s potential in managing obesity and related conditions. The published results from SYNCHRONIZE-1 and SYNCHRONIZE-MASLD provide clinical evidence supporting survodutide’s use. The drug may offer new options for weight management and metabolic health in specific patient groups. Further regulatory steps will determine its availability for wider use.
