Bhopal's AIIMS teaches locals to spot and report drug side effects

A recent awareness campaign in Obaidullaganj, Raisen district, highlighted the importance of reporting medicine side effects. Organised by AIIMS Bhopal’s pharmacology department, the drive aimed to teach people how to spot and report unknown drug reactions. Officials stressed that quick reporting can prevent harm to other patients in the future. The campaign was led by the pharmacology team at AIIMS Bhopal, which also serves as a Regional Training Centre for drug safety monitoring. Participants learned about common side effects, including allergies, dizziness, vomiting, and weakness. The goal was to help citizens recognise new or unexpected reactions to medicines.

People were encouraged to report any discomfort through multiple channels. These include a toll-free helpline, consumer forms, and a dedicated mobile app. The Pharmacovigilance Programme of India’s app was promoted as the easiest way to submit reports from home. Experts explained that tracking side effects helps improve overall healthcare safety. By sharing their experiences, patients can contribute to better monitoring of medicines across the country.

The drive in Obaidullaganj provided clear steps for reporting drug reactions. AIIMS Bhopal’s team urged the public to use the available tools to log any issues they face. Timely reporting remains a key part of keeping medicines safe for everyone.
