Bangladesh health minister urges doctor-government unity for better care
Health and Family Welfare Minister Sardar Md Sakhawat Husain has called for stronger cooperation between doctors and the government to improve medical services. Speaking at Rajshahi Medical College, he highlighted recent efforts to upgrade healthcare, including new emergency NICU and ventilation units. The minister addressed senior and junior doctors, including Professor Md Monir Hossain Khan, during a programme at the college. He stressed that proper healthcare cannot be delivered without the active support of physicians. To strengthen the system, he urged doctors to share key messages with colleagues working at the grassroots level.
Recent government actions include managing the supply of rabies vaccines and preparing for a potential rise in measles cases. Husain also reaffirmed his commitment to eliminating corruption within the health ministry. He believes that, with physicians' cooperation, doctors can achieve greater respect and recognition in society. The newly established emergency NICU and ventilation facilities at Rajshahi Medical College are part of broader efforts to enhance critical care. Husain emphasised the need for a coordinated approach across the medical sector to ensure these improvements reach all levels of healthcare.
The minister's call for unity comes as the government expands healthcare infrastructure and vaccine distribution. With new facilities in place and ongoing preparations for disease outbreaks, the focus now shifts to ensuring doctors and officials work together. Success in these efforts will depend on collaboration between medical staff and policymakers.
