Astana celebrates elderly residents with citywide festivals and workshops

Astana marked the Day of the Elderly with citywide celebrations organised by the Center for Active Longevity. Thousands of residents attended events held across all districts, featuring concerts, workshops, and open classes. The centre, launched in 2022, has already engaged over 16,000 pensioners in its activities.

The festivities took place at every branch of the Center for Active Longevity, each offering its own programme. Open Door Days provided free legal advice, quick health checks, and cultural shows. In Jeruiyik Park, a concert and an exhibition of creative works by elderly residents drew large crowds.

Activities ranged from tournaments in traditional games like togyzqumalaq to workshops on breathing exercises. An 85-year-old participant, who recently learned the game, even led a session for beginners and proposed forming a dedicated club. The centre's regular offerings include over 20 different programmes, from physical therapy and language courses to computer skills and sports. Established to tackle loneliness and enhance well-being, the centre gives older adults opportunities to socialise and explore new interests. Its oldest member, aged 92, remains actively involved in the community.

The Day of the Elderly highlighted the centre's role in supporting Astana's ageing population. Events like tournaments, workshops, and open classes provided both entertainment and practical benefits. With more than 16,000 pensioners already participating, the initiative continues to grow across the city.
