American Ebola Patient Fully Recovers After Treatment in Berlin's Charité

An American citizen was diagnosed with Ebola at Berlin’s Charité hospital on 20 May. The patient received immediate treatment in the hospital’s high-security isolation unit. Five family members, classified as high-risk contacts, were also placed under quarantine at the facility.

Upon admission, the patient showed severe symptoms of the virus. Within the first week of treatment, their condition improved significantly. Control tests from 30 May onwards found no detectable traces of Ebola in their system.

The local health authority lifted the patient’s isolation order after they remained symptom-free for over 72 hours and tested negative via PCR. Following successful recovery, the patient was discharged in good health. Meanwhile, the five quarantined family members showed no symptoms throughout the 21-day observation period. None tested positive for the virus. Charité later confirmed the lifting of their quarantine order.

The patient has fully recovered and no longer requires medical care. All family members completed quarantine without infection, and no further cases were reported. The incident concluded with no additional transmission of the virus.
