Abu Dhabi and Oura team up to revolutionize preventive healthcare with wearables
Abu Dhabi’s Department of Health (DoH) and wearable tech company Oura have launched a joint research programme. The initiative will explore how continuous health data from wearables can improve preventive care. The partnership combines Abu Dhabi’s public health infrastructure with Oura’s real-time health tracking technology. The collaboration focuses first on women’s health, particularly preconception and perinatal care. It will also examine cardiometabolic risks, with plans to expand into metabolic and cardiovascular conditions later. Researchers aim to use the data to identify population-wide risk factors and develop personalised interventions.
The programme relies on Abu Dhabi’s existing health data alongside Oura’s wearable insights. A strict data governance framework ensures anonymisation, consent-based sharing, and secure storage under UAE and international standards. Both organisations emphasise privacy as a core principle of the research. Tom Hale, Oura’s CEO, described the partnership as a model for data-driven preventive healthcare. Mansoor Ibrahim Al Mansoori, DoH Chairman, added that real-time health sensing will shape the future of public health. The long-term goal is to build a scalable, prevention-first system grounded in continuous monitoring.
The research marks the start of a broader effort to transform Abu Dhabi’s healthcare approach. By analysing wearable data, the programme seeks to detect health risks earlier and tailor interventions. Success in initial areas could lead to wider applications in chronic disease prevention and population health management.
