65-Year-Old Woman Becomes China’s Oldest New Mother After High-Risk Pregnancy

A 65-year-old woman in Zhangjiagang has given birth to a baby boy, setting a new record as the city’s oldest new mother. The child’s father, aged 91, and his mother had long hoped for a son after raising two adult daughters. Mu Yuzhen and her husband Chen Huasen, married for over 40 years, spent decades trying for another baby using traditional Chinese medicine. Around two years ago, she decided to pursue pregnancy again after feeling lonely when her daughters moved abroad. After focusing on her health, she conceived through in vitro fertilisation in 2025. The pregnancy, however, faced serious complications, including blood pressure fluctuations, kidney issues, and severe swelling in her legs. Doctors also noted abnormal albumin and uric acid levels. Due to the risks, a cesarean section was performed at 33 weeks. The baby boy, weighing 2.2 kg at birth, arrived safely. Both mother and child are now reported to be in stable condition. The birth marks a rare case of advanced maternal age, with the mother now 65 and the father 91. Medical teams closely monitored the high-risk pregnancy, ensuring a successful delivery despite the challenges. The family has welcomed their long-awaited baby boy after years of effort.
